22lb 15oz wins fishing competition

The winner of the 2017 Boyle Pike Angling Festival was Joe McDermott with a fish weighing 22lbs 15oz.

Joe was presented with a cheque for €2500, the Moonstone Perpetual Trophy and Winners Jacket by joint sponsors John Keville and Joe Simon.

There were over 150 entries over the two days.

At the prize giving on Sunday evening at the Doon Shore, club Chairman Martin Suffin thanked all who participated and supported the event over the last 25 years.

He especially  thanked Keville Engineering and Joe Simon Ltd for their generous and consistent sponsorship.


In Third place is Aishling Gleeson, No 159 with a fish weighing in at 4lb 8oz. Aishling gets €50.

In Second place is Paddy Sharkey, No 82 with a fish weighing in at 4lb 12oz.  Paddy gets €100.

In First Place is Alfie Walshe, No 217 with a fish weighing in at 6lb 12oz. Alfie gets €200.


In First Place with a piece of Galway Crystal sponsored by Moonstone Jewellers, with a fish weighing 10lbs 12oz, Number 10, Wioleta Hejna.


The Pool Prize of €200, the winner is, with a fish weighing 22lb 15oz is No. 141 Joe McDermott


The 3 win.ners of €100 a piece are as follows:

No. 137 – Myles Quinn – 14lbs 12oz

No. 221 – Henry Dowd – 14lbs 4oz

No 163 – Noel McGuire – 15lbs 8oz.

The €125 Winner is No 2 Ben Cresswell with a fish weighing 17lbs 5oz.

The €250 winner for Saturday is No 39 Michael Bannon with a fish weighing 17lb 8oz.

And the €500 winner for Saturday is No 142 Pat Healy with a fish weighing 20lb 6oz.


The 3 winners of €100 apiece are as follows

€100 Winner – No 213 – Eamon Craven – 12lbs 4oz

€100 Winner – No 6 – Krzystof Sigiga – 13lbs 8oz

€100 Winner – No 103 Keith Gleeson – 13lbs 8oz.

The €125 Winner is No 165 Ollie Fallon with a fish weighing 13lbs 10oz.

The €250 Winner is No 164 Fidelma Fallon with a fish weighing 15lbs 8oz.

And the €500 winner for Sunday is No 143 Kevin McGourty with a fish weighing 22lbs 8oz.


And in first place with a cheque for €2,500 and The Moonstone Jewellers Perpetual Trophy and The Winners Jacket, with a fish weighing 22lbs 15oz weighed at Bullock Island on Saturday  is number No 141 Joe McDermott.
