BOYLE BUSINESS AWARDS 2015 

Time is ticking for Boyle Town’s first ever Business Awards which is being organised by local website Boyletoday.com and Financial Services Company Moneyplus. The awards will recognise and honour the many businesses that operate in the town of Boyle. There are six categories in this year’s awards: 1. Best Bar/Pub of the year. 2. Best Established Business. 3. Best Start up Business. 4. Best Customer Service Award. 5. Employee of the Year. 6. Employer of the Year. Entry forms and guidelines will be available to download on Boyletoday .com and from the Moneyplus office on Bridge Street in Boyle.  All businesses in Boyle and within a five mile/eight kilometre radius of the town are eligible to enter the awards. The deadline is Wednesday 25th March results being issued 3/4 weeks later.  The awards will be presented in King House dates to be confirmed.

INFORMATION SESSION

Roscommon Women’s Network will hold an Information Session as part of The W.I.N.D.O.W project which will take place on Thursday 26th March from 11am until 1pm in Boyle Enterprise Centre. This project is to support women into employment and education. We hope to run a personal development course, confidence building course in Boyle should there be sufficient interest. The project is a one-to-one mentoring service that will support and guide you into a course and/or employment and is completely free. BOYLE & DISTRICT ANGLING CLUB

The Pike Angling Festival Boat Competition will take place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th April on Lough Key, Boyle starting on Saturday at 11am until 6pm with prize money of €1,275 & Sunday 10am until 5pm with prize money of €1,175 and the heaviest fish is worth €2,500 plus Moonstone Jewellers Cup. Entrance fee is €60 per adult and €20 per junior. Juniors must fish for junior prizes at €20 per entry and must be accompanied by a fee paying adult. Presentation will take place on Sunday 6th on Doon Shore.

TEA PARTY & MINI FAIR

An Easter afternoon Tea Party and Mini Fair will be held in Tawnytaskin Community Centre on Easter Sunday and Monday the 5th and 6th April from 2pm until 6pm. Come out and enjoy an Afternoon Tea and while you are there browse through the fantastic stands featuring local craft and food producers. Exhibits will include local homey, cakes, bread, jams and chutneys. Creative Cheese Works with home kits for you to make your own cheese at home. A Nutritional Therapist will have organic goods and a variety of teas, alongside a local photographer with prints and postcards. All you might need for your knitting baking and sewing. Boyle Men’s shed will also be there with a selection of their hand crafted gifts and a bric a brac stall. BRIGHT SPARKS

Boyle Christmas Lights crew are reminding all Businesses, Associations and anyone looking for a fun night out on Good Friday 3rd April  to reserve their table for the Bright Sparks Quiz, -the annual fundraiser for Boyles new Christmas lights. A great night is guaranteed, full of surprises -on Friday April 3rd commencing 8pm in St. Josephs Hall.

Bike Maintenance Courses

With the arrival of longer evenings and the temperature on the rise it’s time to start thinking about getting back on your bike. Don’t allow mechanical issues ruin your ride outs this summer! Get on top of your bike maintenance with our basic road side repair courses or our comprehensive bike maintenance courses. Courses:- Level 2- Advanced Bike Maintenance Tuesday 24th March  31st March / 7th April Venue:- St. Joseph’s Resource Centre, Boyle, Co. Easter camp in Ballinameen

Ballinameen Easter Camp will run from Monday 30th March to Thursday 2nd April from 9:30am to 2:30pm in Ballinameen Community Centre and GAA grounds. This camp is organised and run by primary school teachers. It is open to boys and girls, junior infants to sixth class. Children will be given the opportunity to enjoy a variety of sports, games and fun activities in a safe and enjoyable environment. Activities include: Gaelic football, Hurling/ Camogie, Hockey, Orienteering, Yoga, literacy and numeracy games. For further information call Ruth on 0861055659.

Curlew Walkers Club

The next meeting of the club will take place on Sunday 12th April meeting on the Crescent at 10am. This will be a Climb/Grade A at the Ox Mountains Knockalongy with your leader being Philip James, contact no 086 335 3000. Boyle Garden companies win in Dublin

Bord Bia recently presented its annual Garden Industry Awards at a reception in its Dublin Headquarters.Two Boyle based garden companies won awards. The awards recognise and promote excellence across the gardening industry while celebrating the industry’s dedication to achieving the highest standards of operation. A total of 38 garden centres across the country were recognised, in addition to a number of special category award winners.Thomas J. Crummy Landscaping of Cloonloo, Boyle received a Landscape Quality Award, one of only 17 landscape businesses to do so.Ardcarne Plantplus Garden Centre also based in Boyle won a 4 Star Garden Centre Award.

BOYLE& DISTRICT ANGLING CLUB

Due to the bad weather the Paddy Sharkey Perpetual Memorial Lough Gara Cup Open Pike Competition will now be taking place on Sunday 26th July at Lough Gara. Fishing commences at 11am until 6pm. Check in and entries will be taken at Templeronan Pier. Presentation will take place in the Moylurg Inn, Boyle at 8.30pm. For further information please contact Jane Suffin on 086 8301261.

Funkidz Easter Camp in Boyle

Taking place in Abbey Community College from Monday March 30th until Thursday April 2nd from 10.00am until 2.00pm.Activities on offer include Soccer, Tag Rugby, Athletics, Gaelic Football and Volleyball.  7 years up to 12 year olds.Due to limited places being available, bookings are encouraged to be made by Thursday 26th March.Call 0863567145 for bookings and enquiries.

FLOWER ARRANGING FOR EASTER

Would you like to make an Easter Basket with your favourite flowers with the guidance of professional Florist Angela East. BOYLE GOLF CLUB

The second round of the Spring League took place last weekend 14th & 15th March with Brendan Gaffney, Sandra McCrann & Cillian Doyle leading on 125pts, 2nd Charlie O’Donnell, Ruth Hogg & Michael Reid 124pts, 3rd Liam Mullaney, Tom Kearney & Ted Hestor 123pts. Last week’s nine hole was won by James Shivnan 21pts, 2nd Owen Garvin 19pts. Draw for the foursome’s competition took place on Sunday March 22nd. Teams will consist of a low and high handicap. A club outing will take place to Mount Temple on Saturday March 28th. Cost will be €35 per person plus €5 prize fund. Outing includes tea/coffee on arrival and three course meal afterwards. First tee off will take place at 11am. Please check noticeboard or the members section on the website for details. Date for your diary is the first Golfer of the year competition on Sunday March 29th. Format will be 18 hole stableford. Course maintenance, including work on bunkers, 16th teebox and drains will take place between Tuesday April 7th and Friday Saturday April 11th. All the work is weather dependent. The course will have to close during some of this time. BOYLE SUMMER SHOW

Could your design be the face of the summer? Poster and Booklet design campaign using any medium to design the cover of the Summer Show Poster and Booklet. The Booklet Campaign is open to all between the age of 9 to 15 years of age and the Poster Campaign open to all between the ages of 15 to 100 years. BOYLE FARMERS MARKET

The Market is now open from 10am to 2pm each and every Saturday in the grounds of King House, Boyle. If you would like to enjoy the best locally grown fresh and organic produce, then a trip to Boyle Farmers’ Market on Saturday should be on your agenda. There is a wide range of seasonal produce, including organic fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and marmalade, organic free range eggs, fruit juices, gluten free/ sour dough/ spelt bread and all kinds of delicious home bakes are available every week. Alongside the food stalls are a number of crafters selling their handmade wares, personalized candles and knitwear. So why not come along and have a chat with the stall
