ROCK THE CLOCK PLANNING CONTINUES

The organisers of August’s ‘Rock the Clock’ festival in Boyle have had to cancel the planned ‘Lip Sync Battle’ due to insufficient entries. Work is continuing weekly on organising a great line up for the much anticipated August bank Holiday weekend Festival. Among those performing will be The Legends who will play live outside The Moylurg from 9:30pm on Friday 3rd of August. The organisers would like to thank those who did sign up for the Lip Sync and “who knows, we might do it again later in the year”.

BOYLE TENNIS CLUB

Boyle Community Tennis are competing in the Connacht League Div.3. It has been many years since Boyle have played any competitive tennis and great to see the community club getting back into full swing!! Pictured are the Boyle Tennis Team who competed in Sligo Tennis Club recently. The next match is away to Manorhamilton with Boyle hosting a home match against Ballina in September.  Boyle Community Tennis are always looking for new players and offer membership at extremely reasonable rates. So if you played a long time ago or would like to learn and get some exercise in a fun environment please let us know. Monday nights from 7pm or Wednesday mornings from 11am open to all – just come along!! For juniors there is a tennis camp happening 7th until 10th August contact Tim 083 1155374 for information and booking.

JUNIOR GOLF IN BOYLE

Junior golf continues on Wednesday’s at Boyle Golf Club and will commence at 6pm. All children 8 years of age or older and interested in learning the basics of the game are welcome. All equipment will be provided.

BOYLE SUMMER SHOW 2018

The Summer Show 2018 will be held again this year, at the Boyle GAA Training Grounds, located at The Warren, the Town side of Drumderrig Nursing Home. The location is ideally situated close to the town, on level ground and sheltered from the elements. One of the biggest highlights this year is hosting “the All Ireland Champion Spaniel” competition for the 2nd time. The Dog Show will be under canvas, so come rain or shine, the dogs will look fantastic. Pony clubs from the region will also be competing for the best pony club accolade, showcasing their expertise in jumping, with all the popular attractions and competitions, over 40 stalls and fun for all the family.

HEALTH & WELLBEING CRAFT FAIR

A Health and Wellbeing Craft Fair will be held in Boyle in September. The Fair will take place in the Spool Factory Event Centre on Sunday September 9th from 11am to 6pm. The event is open to all complementary therapists, crafters, soap makers, crystals etc. If you are unsure if your craft is suitable please message Lucy below. PLANNING FOR HERITAGE WEEK IN BOYLE

Boyletoday.com reports that a number of event are planned for Heritage Week in Boyle including: A Sacred Island before Christianity – Ardcarne Church of Ireland (August 22nd). Mighty Moths – King House (August 23rd). Family Nature Walk – King House (August 23rd). King’s Trail Bus Tour – Grounds King House (August 18th and 25th). ‘Gathering’ – King House (August 18th to 25th). ‘Dig It’ Archaeology for Children – Lough Key Forest Park ( 25th August). National Heritage Week 2018 will take place between the 18th and 26th August.Coordinated by the Heritage Council, National Heritage week is Ireland’s most popular cultural event and this year over 450,000 people are expected to participate in over 2,000 heritage events around  the country. Over thirty community groups, organisations and individuals have organised more than fifty events around County Roscommon to celebrate the rich and diverse heritage that is there for us all to enjoy. Events range from lectures, launches, nature walks, visits to historic houses and gardens, music, poetry and song to family fun events. Many of the events are free and highlight the abundance of great work that is carried out in communities all around County Roscommon including Boyle to care for and promote our built, natural and cultural heritage.

CURLEW WALKERS CLUB

The next meeting of the Curlew Walkers will be Sunday 9th September meeting on Crescent, Boyle at 10 am and will leave for Leean and Doons. This will be Climb Grade B. BOYLE GOLF CLUB RESULTS

Mary O’Hara was the winner of this years Lady Captains Prize, played on Sunday the 15th of July. Mary and the other prize winners were presented with their prizes by this years Lady Captain, Marie Hanmore-Cawley at a presentation in the clubhouse that evening. The list of winners is as follows – 1st – Mary O’Hara, 2nd – Peggy Feely, Best Gross Score – Liz Dwyer, 3rd, Carmel McGarry, Category A- Tish Perry, Category B-Mandy Toolan, Category C – Geraldine McDermottroe, Pats Captain – Kathleen Candon, Front Nine – Moira Egan, Back Nine- Ruth Hogg, Best Visitor- Margaret Cox, 9 hole competition – Criona O ‘Donnell.

Lady Captains Prize To The Men, 1st  Vincent Egan 38 points, 2nd Eamonn Perry 37 points, Best Gross Score – Charlie O’Donnell, 3rd – Tom Kearney. Mens Midweek Competition. The 12 hole stableford played on Thursday the 19th was won by Gerry Carty with 29 points, in second was Tom Kearney with 28 and back in the winners enclosure after a few months absence was Cillian Doyle, taking third place with 27 points. The “2s club” was won by Gerry Carty. Interclub. The men of the club recorded a good win over Ballinamore in the first round of this years Jack O’Sullivan Trophy. The team is ably captained by Charlie O’Donnell.

James Shivnan Memorial Cup.  James Shivnan was a very popular member of Boyle Golf Club and since his untimely passing we have played an annual competition for a perpetual trophy in his honour. This years competition will be an 18 hole stableford taking place on Sunday the 19th of August with an entry fee of 10 euro for members and 15 euro for visitors. Online booking is available at www.boylegolfclub.com. Captains Prize. The biggest event of the year for the male golfers of the club is almost upon us with Terry Canning’s Captain’s Prize for 2018 taking place on Sunday the 29th of July. The competition will consist of an 18 hole strokeplay, with the best scorers qualifying for a 9 hole play-off later that evening with presentation of prizes taking place shortly after the end of the play-off. Online booking has opened for this competition with several of the earlier tee-times reserved already.

KIDS TRAVEL FREE ON LOCAL LINK BUS

The popular Local Link bus service to and from Boyle and Lough Key Forest Park is now in full operation for the summer season. This July kids travel free on the service.The bus will run through to 31st October 2018.The Lough Key Forest Park Service links visitors to the Park seven days per week, providing four return scheduled services daily.It also serves Boyle Marina. The Local Link Bus departs from Boyle at King House to Lough Key Forest Park at 11:00, 14:30. 18:30 and 21:45.The Bus departs from Lough Key at 11:30, 15:00 and 19:00
