Boyle GAA news 14/7/14

It was a relatively quiet week at Club level. The U14s lost to Western Gaels in the Division 2 Championship. Their next outing is away to St. Dominics this Thursday in the next round of the championship. The U12s are scheduled to play St Brigids on Sunday next the 20th at 1pm in Kiltoom in the Spring League Final Division 1. The U16s defeated Kilbride in Kilbride in the Division 3 Championship. Their next outing will be on 30th July against Castlerea. The McGovern Directional Drilling Seniors will not be playing their scheduled O’Rourke Cup game this week because of the ongoing involvement of the Roscommon Seniors in the All Ireland Qualifiers. Instead, the Cooney Motors/ Cooney’s Centra Juniors will play the first round of the Junior B Championship against St. Faithleachs in the Abbey Park on this Wednesday evening at 8pm.

Congratulations to the Roscommon Seniors and to our representatives Enda and Donie Smith who contributed handsomely to the victory over Cavan. Enda kicked some crucial scores when Roscommon needed them most and put in a man of the match performance. The team will play Armagh at home this weekend. Commiserations to the Roscommon Minors on their Connacht Final defeat, but we look forward to a successful outing in the forthcoming All Ireland Quarter Final where they will play the Ulster winners, either Donegal or Monaghan.

Well done to Cian McKeon on his ongoing participation with Roscommon U16s and on their victory over Leitrim last week.

Congratulations to Most Reverend Kevin Doran on his ordination as Bishop of Elphin on Sunday.

Congratulations to former player Alan Tiernan and his wife Jenny on the birth of their baby daughter and to Elaine Taheny (Purcell) and her husband Colin on the birth of their son–both hopefully future Boyle footballers!

Congratulations to Damien Murray and Olivia Cryan who were married over the weekend also.

Good to see Gary Wynne and his Roscommon Connacht Champions 1990-1991 colleagues being acknowledged at the Connacht Final in Castlebar on Sunday.

The Club will have tickets available for the Roscommon GAA Race Day which will take place in Roscommon Racecourse on Tuesday 5th August. Tickets are only €20 each and will be available in the coming week. The price includes admission, race card, food and entertainment in the Roscommon GAA enclosure. The Club is anxious that this become a social occasion and that a minimum of 40 tickets be sold.
Ladies Club
Boyle Ladies had a convincing victory over old rivals Shannon Gaels in the third round of the Intermediate Championship in Abbey Park on Sunday. There were a number of strong performances on the Boyle team namely Catriona Hanmore, Ashling Dolan, Nicole McDermott and Emer Killalea but special mention to Melissa Mattimoe who added to 2 crucial scores when introduced in the second half when the team needed them most. This gives them two wins out of three to date. They are scheduled to play Castlerea St Kevins in their next championship game on Sunday next in Abbey Park at 12 noon. Well done to Roscommon U16 Girls on their Championship win over Leitrim on Saturday, and to our three representatives on the panel–Melissa Mattimoe, Rachel Maidment and Roisin Wynne.
