Boyle IFA boycott presidential vote

Boyle branch of the Irish Farmers Association was one of two branches from County Roscommon to boycott the vote for the presidential elections in the organisation this week.

It is understood the ninety member strong Boyle branch decided to postpone their meeting at which their vote was to be cast.

Strokestown IFA have also refused to vote with others planning to follow suit.

The boycott is over what the branches see as an unfair situation where members would not be able to vote for a Connaught Chairperson at the same time as the presidential election.

The Connacht position is vacant for four months which the brnach feel is unacceptable.

The headquarters of the farming body says it’s the strong view of Council that the situation needs to be resolved within the region under existing rules.
