Two week rail disruption ends

After two weeks of delays and cancellations, Irish Rail this morning announced that full service would resume on the Dublin – Sligo line from Monday 3rd.

High water levels on the line had resulted in bus transfers between Carrick and Longford and on occasion Sligo and Longford and the cancelleation of some evening services.

Many commuters were critical of the way the situation was handled by Irish Rail with lack of communication, overcrowding on trains due to cancellation of services and commuters this morning querying why Irish Rail could not have opened the line yesterday – one of the busiest of the week.

Meanwhile, last evening (Sunday) the 18.35 train from Sligo did not arrive into Boyle until 19.10 with no explanation for those waiting at Boyle Station.
