Call to ‘only attend A&E if necessary’

The HSE has advised on ‘knock on’ delays at hospital’s, including Sligo University Hospital, following yesterday’s industrial action by nursing staff.

The industrial action concluded at 8am this morning with another day of strike action planned for next Tuesday.

A HSE spokesperson has requested the public to only access emergency departments if ‘absolutely necessary’.

Meanwhile members of the psychiatric nurses association have begun an overtime ban for today Thursday and tomorrow Friday.

The ban will have a knock on effect for some community services in this area.
