Fergal steps down as minor manager

Boyle resident Fergal O’Donnell last night stepped down as manager of the Roscommon minor team.

As a player Fergal led Roscommon as captain to the a Connacht Championship win in 2001. He also won a Connacht Minor medal in 1989.

He played his club football with Roscommon Gaels with whom he won Roscommon senior championship medals in 1994, 1998, 1999 2001 and 2004.

After retiring from playing he went into management.

In 2006 he led Roscommon to shock Connacht minor and All Ireland wins.

In 2010 he once again led Roscommon to a Connacht senior championship this time as manager of the team.

In October 2011 O’Donnell resigned as manager due to work commitments but came back on board in 2013.

Fergal is a Roscommon town Garda and is held in high regard by everyone in Boyle and further afield
