Gardai appeal to motorist in Leitrim

Gardai in Carrick on Shannon are asking people not to make any unnecessary journeys in the county as the flooding crisis worsens.

County Leitrim and Carrick in particular have been badly hit.

Gardai are urging motorists who have to make a journey to bring a phone, torch and high vis jacket.

They are also asking that motorists not to drive through floods and to follow all signposted diversions.

The N4 between Townspark roundabout and the Retail Park roundabout is closed to traffic while flood waters are rising in Cortober and on the Roscommon side of the town.

There is severe flooding on all roads leading to Leitrim village.
