Layden to captain Connacht team

A man with Boyle connections has today been selected to captain the Connacht Sevens team for the World Cup tournament in Limerick this weekend.

Shane Layden is son of Peter and Ita Layden, Clooneigh, Boyle Road, Carrick on Shannon while his grandparents Brendan and Dorothy Layden live on the Carrick Road in Boyle.

Shane plays his rugby with Buccaneers and is an ex Shannon Gaels and county minor GAA star.

He was part of the Irish 7s team that recently qualified for the World Rugby Olympic Repechage.

Connacht are in pool C and will face Ulster, Beunos Aires and South African side Golden Lions on Friday, with the play-off stages taking place on Saturday.
