Boyle hit by power outage on Monday

A major electricity outage affected parts of Boyle and neighbouring towns on Monday evening.

Power was lost to approx 6,500 homes at 5pm with a number of shops and businesses having to close early due to a” large fault”.

Some homes and businesses were totally without power while others were on reduced supply.

It is reported that power outage has also occurred in Ballaghaderreen, Frenchpark, Tubbercurry and other areas in the county.

ESB Networks have said “we are aware of a fault in Roscommon and Leitrim areas and we have a crew en route”.

Five areas are listed at being at fault locally- Boyle, Ballinafad, Aughoo, Gurteen, Ballaghaderreen and Aughavas in Leitrim.

Geevagh in Co Sligo is also affected.

ESB Networks are advising that it could be 8 – 9pm before reconnection again in ALL areas.

18.45 update: Power has been restored to the majority of homes in the Boyle area. 260 still without full power

In addition to the Roscommon/Leitrim fault, parts of Limerick, Thurles and Wexford were faced with a similar predicament on Monday evening.
