Suffin named ‘Player of the Week’

Boyle Celtic goalkeeper Kyle Suffin has been named the JSP Player of the Week following the teams victory over Ballina Town in the FAI Junior Cup .

According to the Junior Soccer Portal (JSP), “The series has been dominated by strikers. Those who grab the goals often grab the spotlight.

“However, 2017 seems to be the year of the goal keeper. For the second week running a net minder has managed to pick up The JSP Player of the Week gong.”

“Last week Ian Doran’s custodian heroics for Rivervalley Rangers in the Leinster Junior Cup saw him get the nod and this week his fellow goal keeper Kyle Suffin wins the award.”

“Suffin was standout as Boyle Celtic won the most entertaining and dramatic of the FAI Junior Cup last 32 ties.”

“Boyle faced exit from the tournament when opponents Ballina Town were awarded a 90 minute penalty with the scores deadlocked a three a piece.”

“However, Suffin produced a brilliant save to ensure extra time and eventually penalties. Come spot kick time the goal keeper stepped up to the plate again saving the first two from 12 yards, before making a third save only for the referee to order a retake. It mattered not as the visitors still managed to progress to the last 16 of the blue ribbon Junior football cup contest with their keeper to thank.”

In other Boyle Celtic Cup news Boyle have been drawn against Vec FC from Dublin in the 7th round (last 16) of the FAI junior cup. Boyle have home advantage with the game been played on the weekend of the 3rd of February.
