Boyle men head to the hills of Donegal

Four local men departed the town early this morning to participate in the Donegal Ultra Challenge Race which starts later today.

Eddie Conroy, Des McLoughlin and Gavin Brennan from Boyle along with well known Keadue native and current Chairman of Curlieu Wheelers cycling club Declan Noone will take to the start line in Letterkenny for the gruelling 555k event at 3.30pm on Friday.

The quartet will cycle under the Team Trojan banner and intend to raise as much money as possible for the Roscommon Mayo Hospice.

The route takes riders past Malin Head, Mamore Gap, Knockalla, Atlantic Drive, Horn Head, Carrickfin, Glengesh Pass, Sliabh League and Barnesmore Gap all within a cut off time of 40 hours.

But the Boyle boys hope to come in a lot faster than that!

Last year’s local team finished in under 23 hours. For 2018 they hope to do better.

Once they leave the start line the team will cycle non stop in relay for the duration of the event.

Sleep deprived and hungry, they will be back in Letterkenny by Saturday afternoon and in Boyle by tea time!

The team is ably assisted by an experienced back up crew of Enda Madden, Michael Sweeney and Oliver Donagher.
