Two tough games for Abbey College

The Abbey College Junior ladies football team finished off the group stages of their competition with style and determination this week by playing two very tough games against Scoil Mhuire Strokestown and Colaiste Mhuire Ballygar.

It took a huge effort from all the members of the Junior team to play both games one day after the other on both Thursday morning and Friday Morning. Unfortunately this didn’t go unpunished and we suffered two injuries of key players on Thursday against Strokestown we would like to wish both Niamh Ryan our Midfielder and our goalkeeper Rebecca McKeon a speedy recovery.

On that same note we would like to thank Emma Scally (who scored two goals against Strokestown!) and Kate Garavan (one of our brilliant backs) for volunteering to go in to goals for the second game against Ballygar not an easy task!

Every player on the panel played a part in both games which is really what it’s all about everyone getting game time. Thank you girls for your marvellous effort both days in terrible weather and not great playing conditions.

The Final score from the Strokestown game was 6-09 to 2-14. The final score from the Ballygar game was 5-10 to 4-03.

We have a well deserved break now for the players for a few weeks and we await news of who we’ll will play in the New Year in the quarterfinals.

Both games were played at the School pitch in Abbey CC and we would like to thank our wonderful caretaker Michael for looking after the pitch for us.
