The Boyle’d Pot 13/02/’26

A viewer who is new to the area has been in contact with the following comments: “Just a thought as a new person to the area. It took me a while to find the lovely harbour in Boyle and Doon swimming spot. They could be signposted better and maybe a large map or QR code for scanning could be installed, as this would help visitors to find the lovely places in Boyle area. The map could be placed in the town centre somewhere showing all the great beauty spots and activities in the Boyle area. I have shown the lovely places to family and friends that have come to visit and they have used them and are very happy to have these places to go to when in the area. QR codes could be used for activities, beauty spots and walks, food and drink and upcoming events. Keep up the good work as your news website very interesting and to the point”.
Brighter days are coming
With the stretch in the evening and the mornings now getting a bit brighter, spring is right around the corner and now is the time to prepare for the months ahead. Following what could be described as a relatively mild winter, algae has formed everywhere and a good power washing of the footpaths, buildings and signage around town is badly needed. So too, is a lick of paint on a number of buildings in the town centre that would have traditionally been painted but may not have received their makeover last year. While some of these properties lie vacant, that is no excuse for their owners neglecting them and if they are not prepared to maintain these buildings – then put them up for sale.

Some street lights out of action for over four years!
What more needs to be done to get the light working again at the Bridge Street/St. Patrick Street junction outside the former National Irish Bank. The light has been unbelievably out of action since March 1st 2022 – or maybe earlier – as March 2022 is the date it was first reported to Electric Skyline. The companies website say the fault was ‘escalated’ on November 29th 2022 meaning that it is already flagged in the system with an urgent priority!! There are a number of other lights out for a considerable length of time around the town and despite the faults being logged regularly on Electric Skyline website nothing seems to be happening which is totally unacceptable and most annoying. In relation to the light that is now gone 4 years outside the former NIB premises, one would have assumed this light should have got priority being located at a busy and dangerous junction on the N61.

And finally……!
A young man and woman from Cavan were sitting together on a hill in the countryside outside Bailieborough.
They had been silent for a while; then the woman said, “A penny for your thoughts.”
The young man was a bit bashful, but he finally said, “Well, I was thinkin’ how nice it would be if ye’d give me a little bit of a kiss.”
So she did.
Then the young man again lapsed into a pensive mood which lasted long enough for the woman to ask him: “What are you thinkin’ now?!?!”
To which the lad replied: “Well, I was hopin’ you hadn’t forgot the penny!”
