IRISH LEGENDS STORY TELLING
As part of Social Inclusion Week, Úna Bhán Craft Shop, Grounds of King House, Boyle will host three mornings of FREE storytelling and hot chocolate. Focusing on pre-school children and their parents / guardians with young children that may feel lonely and experiencing social isolation and welcome the opportunity to spend a couple of hours in the company of others while immersing themselves in Irish Legend stories. COOKERY DEMONSTRATIONS
As part of Social Inclusion Week, Úna Bhán will host a morning at Boyle Farmers Market incorporating cookery demonstrations by Flo to provide healthy wholesome food with a main focus on those living on a budget, called ‘Healthy Foods & Healthy Minds’. This year’s Social Inclusion week’s theme is ‘Healthy Roscommon’ and all are very welcome to participate in an interactive and social event on Saturday 20th October from 10am to 2pm in the Grounds of King House, Boyle. The Courtyard Market, Boyle takes place every Saturday from 10am to 2pm in the grounds of King House. RUN WALK N ROLL 2018
This event will take place on Sunday 21st October at 3pm at St. Joseph’s Hall, Boyle. Run Walk N Roll is in its 23rd year in Boyle. This year’s theme is: ‘We Won’t Give Up Until Cancer Does’ It is a 5.4km run/walk and we encourage everyone to come out and participate, fancy dress is welcome. ‘MNA NA BUILLE’
Úna Bhán Tourism are conducting a project called Mná na Buille, a celebration of the culture and creativity of the women from the community of Boyle, especially those born prior to 1940. The project will capture their stories and experiences through different times and situations, often funny, often sad, but all amazing. Stories that reflect growing up in the local community, going to school, the chores they had to do, how they socialised, met their partners and how their lives led them through marriage and rearing families. Stories lost if not recorded and passed to future generations reflecting their strength and endurance during different times, bringing rural and urban experiences and bridging different classes together. The project will reflect and respect specific identities in a positive way to also include women with Dementia and those that may now find their homes in care and nursing homes. BOYLE GOLF CLUB RESULTS
An 18 hole Stableford, sponsored by Brogan’s TotalHealth Pharmacy took place on Sunday the 23rd. Lewis Shaw was triumphant on this occasion with 36 points, just pushing Gerry Carty into second place on “countback”. In third place was a new name among the prize-winners in Boyle Golf Club, Michael Keane, with 35 points in one of his first competitions marking him as someone to watch in 2019. The competition on Sunday the 30th was also an 18 hole stableford, sponsored by Golfstyle , Irelands number 1 golf shop, based in the Liosban Business Park on the Tuam Road in Galway. The King Harmon Cup is to be competed for this year in a new format. Traditionally played for as a matchplay (“knock out”) competition over several months, this year it will be competed for over 3 weekends in October in 18 hole stableford format, with a player’s 2 best cards out of the 3 weeks being combined to give his total. If 2 or more cards tie for first place, the winner will be decided on the best third card.
