Boyle Golf news 23/6/14

Last Sundays Roscommon Herald 18 Hole competition was won by Shane O’Dowd with a great score of 46pts, 2nd Michael Bannon 41pts, Gross Adrian King, 3rd Cillian Doyle 41pts. The front nine was won by John McGuinn and the back nine was won by Francie Flanagan. At the presentation the Captain Padraig O’Connell thanked The Roscommon Herald for sponsoring the prizes and thanked the members for a great turnout. He also thanked Michael Rush for organising the competition. The Winner Shane O’Dowd said he was delighted to win and thanked the Herald for their sponsorship. He also complimented the ground staff for the great condition of the course adding that the greens were “awesome”. Thursdays Mens Competition was won by Michael Rush 29pts, 2nd Pat Conroy 27pts, 3rd Jim Mooney 27pts. Fridays Scramble was won by Terry Canning, Tish Perry & Tom Kearney, 2nd Michael Reid, Jim Suffin & Peter Leydon, 3rd Brendan Gaffney, Michael Rush & Cillian Doyle.

Competitions this week are the Mens Competition on Thursday night and Friday evening is Gerry Egan’s Presidents Scramble. Next Sunday is The Presidents Prize and we send best wishes to Gerry Egan for a great day. Timesheet is on the noticeboard. Presentation of Prizes will take place on Sunday evening.

Junior Golf lesson for boys and girls continue on Saturday mornings at 11.00am.

Open Week commences on Monday July 7th and runs to Sunday July 13th. Full details are on the noticeboard and on the website.

At the Ladies presentation of prizes last Sunday the Lucky Strike voucher was presented to Regina McLoughlin and the PGA Tankard was presented to Susan O’Mahoney. Best wishes to Susan who now goes on to represent the club in Royal Tara in September. Last Sunday’s Ladies Competition was the Niamh Nangle Cup won by Sandra McCrann with a great score of 65, in second place was Moira Egan and third place went to Liz Dwyer.  Competition secretary Peggy Feely thanked the Nangle family for presenting the cup with special thanks to the late Niamh’s husband Brian and son Owen who travelled from Westport. She also thanked the lady members for a great turnout for the competition which she said was a wonderful tribute to Niamh, a great young golfer who is sadly missed. In response Paddy Nangle thanked the ladies Club for remembering Niamh is this special way. He recalled her great times at the club and thanked the Ladies for looking after Niamh so well. He wished the Club well and hopes it goes from strength to strength. The winner Sandra McCrann thanked the Nangle family for the lovely gesture and said she was honoured to win the trophy.

At the Mens presentation of prizes last Sunday, foursome’s winners Sean Heslin and Sean McLoughlin thanked Michael Rush for organising the competition and said it was a great success. Terry Canning, the winner of the Bartley Moran Trophy said he was delighted to win and thanked all those who had taken part.

Volunteering will take place on this Wednesday evening at 6pm to help prepare the course for next Sunday’s Presidents Prize. All Support appreciated.

The June draw was won by Mary O’Hara €80, runners up Liz & Jimmy Dwyer and Terry Canning €40 each. Thanks to all who took part.
