Castlerea woman dies in 109th year

Roscommon and what is believed to be Ireland’s oldest residents has died.

Mary Coyne from Rathbarna, Castlerea passed away peacefully in Aras Mathair Phoil on Monday in her 109th year.

In 2015 when Mary celebrated her 104th birthday she put her long life down to being ‘hale and hearty and taking one day at a time’.

The former Mary Griffin, she was predeceased by her husband Roger and son-in-law Sonnie. Mary will be sadly missed by her loving family; Son Tom (Rathbarna), daughter Pauline (Peyton, Rathmoyle). Grandchildren, great-grandchildren. Nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, extended family, neighbours, friends and the staff of Aras Mhathair Phoil, Castlerea.

Mary will repose at McDonagh’s Funeral Home, Castlerea  on Tuesday from 5.30pm with removal at 7pm to St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea. Funeral Mass on Wednesday morning at 11am with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Castlerea.
