Celtic U16’s through to league final

Pictured are the Boyle Celtic Under 16s who booked their place in the league final with an emphatic 5 – 2 win over Benbulben at the Sligo IT grass pitch on Tuesday evening.

The semi final was played in near hurricane strength winds with rain and hail stones for good measure.

Celtic played against the incredible wind in the first half. They defended with everything they had and were then rewarded when Diarmuid Martin raced clear on a breakout of defence and slotted home for the lead. Boyle looked like holding their lead to half time but a last minute free was carried by the wind, beyond the reach of net minder Stephen Higgins. HT 1 – 1.

Second half with the wind behind them, Boyle added 4 goals to their tally. Robert Kearney struck twice. He had a shot for a hat-trick that cannoned off the post but the ever alert Jack Moran, turned in the rebound. Louis Garvin showed coolness personified to beat the offside and pass the ball into the net past a helpless Benbulben keeper. The Sligo men got a second earlier in the half but they couldn’t match a very determined Boyle Celtic. The final is expected to be in the 3rd week of April.

With so many great performances it was hard to single out individuals but Conor Lavin and Owen Dwyer were the catalysts for Boyles never say die attitude and Conor McGee was outstanding at the back.
