The names of those nominated to contest the seat left vacant by Eugene Murphy on Roscommon County Council for the Boyle Municipal District have still not been made public, despite nominations closing on Wednesday last.
Boyletoday.com put in a request to the Fianna Fail Press Office on Thursday morning for a list of nomineess but no list was forthcoming by Friday morning.
It has been suggested that a convention could be held this weekend to select a candidate,
The chosen candidiate will be revealed at a special meeting of the Council on Monday 14th.
Deputy Murphy is understood to favour the nomination of his brother Joe Murphy from Scramogue, Strokestown for the position.
Others names being mentioned for the seat for the Boyle Municipal area are Roscommon town publican Larry Brennan, Ballintubber’s Sean Og Higgins, Seamus Nugent from Rooskey, James Campbell from Cortober and Adian Sampey from Ballaghaderreen.
In recent days there has been some disquiet that the seat may be filled by a person from outside the district.
