Eight cattle killed on rail line
Rail services on the Westport to Dublin line that serves Roscommon and Castlerea are back to normal Friday after a major incident yesterday.
Eight cattle were killed when the train hit a herd of cattle near Tullamore at approximatley 4.30pm.
No passengers were injured but the train was severly damaged in the incident.
Passengers had to remain on the train before a replacement train brought them back to Athlone with resultant 3 hour delays.
Irish Rail staff travelled by road to the scene and brought water and assistance to the pasengers.
