Funding approved for N4 upgrade

Campaigners and road users of the N4 from Dublin to Sligo have welcomed yesterday’s announcement that funding is to be approved for the upgrade of the treacherous stretch from Castlebaldwin to Collooney.

The announcement was made as part of the Government’s Capital Investment Plan.

The €100m project  will see a type 2 dual carriageway built on the 14k stretch of road reducing the  journey time from Boyle to Sligo.

It will commence at the end of the Curlieu by pass and link up with the existing Collooney by pass.

While the approval of funding was announced, no date is as yet set for commencement.
