No Stabilisation unit for hospital

South Roscommon Fianna Fail Councillor Paddy Kilduff has said the HSE has ruled out opening a stabilisation unit at Roscommon County Hospital.

The councillor also said the HSE has ruled out reopening the hospital’s Emergency Departement.

The issue was raised by Cllr. Kilduff at a recent HSE Forum meeting in Galway.

Following the closure of Roscommon Hospital’s Emergency Department, Councillor Kilduff called for a stabilistion unit to be put in place, so trauma patients could at least be stabilised in Roscommon before being transferred to other hospitals for critical care.

The Chief Operating Officer of the Saolta Hospital Group Tony Canavan ruled out the establishment of a stabilisation unit at the Roscommon Hospital, or the reopening of the A&E which he said had been replaced by an Urgent Care Centre three years ago
