Memorial to be unveiled in Boyle

A remembrance ceremony and a memorial unveiling will take place in Boyle this Sunday 11th November 2018.

At 11am, the exact time and date 100 years ago that World War One ended, the Connaught Rangers Association are holding a service of commemoration in the grounds of King House Boyle, to mark the centenary of the cessation of hostilities that ended the Great War 1914-1918.The committee wish to extend an open invitation to people who would like to attend this event.

Afterwards a Memorial will be unveiled to commemorate the 127 men of the Boyle area who did not return from that war, many of whose present day relatives still live in the Boyle area or its hinterland today. It is fitting that the loss of so many lives from the Boyle area is remembered locally on what is an important centenary before the passage of time consigns this period of Irish history to the distant past.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served.

After the unveiling ceremony there is a programme of reading of Irish war poets by two internationally acclaimed published poets, Aine an Caipin and Mike Byrne.
