Presidential candidate has been a good friend to Boyle

There has been broad welcome to the news that former Minister Heather Humphreys is to seek the Fine Gael nomination for President of Ireland. Heather is no stranger to Boyle and visited the town many times during her tenure as Minister For Rural and Community Development. On each visit she spoke of her admiration of Boyle and it’s potential and this was evident by the amount of grant aid Boyle received during her time in office. In a statement during the week, Boyle man Deputy Frank Feighan expressed his support for Heather’s nomination saying: “I am glad to be able to call Heather a good friend but aside from that she is a colleague that I have worked with closely in government as a TD and Minister from 2011 up until the 2024 general election. Heather’s work as a Minister added to her ability to communicate with people across our rural and urban communities, to understand their challenges and opportunities, has ensured that under her watch and initiatives, so many of those communities have prospered. I believe that Heather would be an excellent President if selected by Fine Gael and elected by the people, I believe she will be in a position to do so much to bring our communities together and she will of course make an enormous contribution in our ongoing ambition to heal divisions on this island”.

And finally…..!

Once, there was a preacher who was an avid golfer. Every chance he could get, he would be on the golf course swinging away.
It was an obsession.
One Sunday was a picture-perfect day for golfing. The sun was out, no clouds were in the sky, and the temperature was just right.
The preacher was in a quandary as to what to do, and shortly, the urge to play golf overcame him.
He called an assistant to tell him that he was sick and could not do church, packed the car up, and drove three hours to a golf course where no one would recognize him.
Happily, he began to play the course.
An angel up above was watching the preacher and was quite perturbed.
He went to God and said, “Look at the preacher. He should be punished for what he is doing.”
God nodded in agreement.
The preacher teed up on the first hole. He swung at the ball, and it sailed effortlessly through the air and landed right in the cup 250 yards away. A picture-perfect hole-in-one.
He was amazed and excited.
The angel was a little shocked.
He turned to God and said, “I beg your pardon, but I thought you were going to punish him.”
God smiled. “Think about it – who can he tell?”

(Please note: There will be no Boyle’d Pot next Friday August 29th)
