Travel times may reduce on N4 road

Travel time from Boyle to Dublin could be cut further if plans for a major improvement to the N4 between Leitrim and Westmeath come to fruition.

A delegation of Chambers of Commerce from counties along the route are set to meet with the Oireachtas members in Dail Eireann on December 13th to call for the road to be included in the Government’s capital programme.

Local authority members and major businesses who use the N4 will also join the delegation on the day.

The plan is to get a dual carriageway from Mullingar to Rooskey to connect up with the Dromod/Drumsna bypass.

Meanwhile, the €102m upgrade of the N4 road network from Castlebaldwin to Collooney north of Boyle is progressing at pace with an anticipated completion date of 2019.

When completed the journey time from Boyle to Sligo will be reduced to under 25 minutes.
