Upgrade work proposed for Boyle’s Doon Shore

An upgrade of the popular Doon Shore area of Boyle is currently being proposed.

Roscommon County Council intend to carry out the following work at the popular amenity area:

  • Creation of defined parking spaces to accommodate cars, trailers and users with disability and surface repairs to existing trafficked areas.
  • Extension of the existing green space to provide a separation between vehicular traffic and pedestrians.
  • Provision of a coloured pedestrian footway along the existing shoreline concrete structure
  • All other associated site and ancillary works.

The development also proposes “to create a more interesting landscape that mimics Lough Key with raised grassy mounds, almost like islands.”

Cycle parking and a new plaza area with stone/concrete picnic facilities and benches are also planned.

The Council has carried out an appropriate assessment screening report and environmental impact assessment screening report in respect of the development which are available for inspection.

Plans and particulars of the proposed development are available (in the front window only) at the offices of Roscommon Co Co in Roscommon and Boyle.

Submissions and observations with respect to the proposed development, dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the development would be situated, may be made in writing to Majella Hunt, Director of Services, Aras and Chontae, Roscommon town before 5pm on January 18th 2021.
