Ballooning Championship parking and traffic information

Lough Key Forest and Activity Park has issued advice to those travelling to the Park this week to observe the 53rd Irish Hot Air Ballooning Championship.

Unfortunately winds above the permitted levels saw no flights over the weekend, but with more favourable weather forecast for this coming week, a number of balloons took to the air this morning with hopes that conditions will remain suitable for flying for the next few days.

According to a statement form the Park management: “We experienced an unprecedented number of visitors over the weekend which meant our car parks filled up much quicker than expected. This unfortunately caused long delays on the approach roads and some visitors were unable to get parked”.

“Please be aware that parking on site is limited to 350 cars and there may be delays entering and leaving the event”.

“We kindly ask visitors to allow extra time for travel and parking, and where possible, consider carpooling”.

“If you live nearby, we encourage you to walk or cycle or use the Local Link Bus Service to avoid traffic queues”.

“Unfortunately once we are full we will not be able to allow anymore vehicles entry for Health & Safety reasons. We are working alongside the Gardaí on traffic management”.

“Please bear in mind that the Balloons will only fly if weather allows and that decision will be made only within the hour prior to flight time. Please check for updates on our Facebook Page”.

“We are working hard to improve the traffic flow for the coming days, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding”.
