Plans progress for redevelopment of former Courthouse

Plans for the redevelopment of the former Courthouse in Boyle moved a stage further this week with the awarding of a grant for up to €50,000 towards the project.
The grant will enable a feasibility study and other work to be undertaken on the viability of turning the Courthouse and adjoining buildings to the rear, into a theatre and community space.
Speaking to Boyletoday.com following the news, Boyle Town Team Chairman, Ciaran Sheerin said: “The Team recognise the Courthouse building and the adjacent Gaol as a unique regeneration opportunity in a prime town-centre location. Significant restoration work has already been completed and this feasibility study represents the next step towards returning the building to community use”.
“This fully funded feasibility study has two aims – firstly to create a joined up vision for the Courthouse, Gaol and associated outbuildings and secondly to identify the most suitable business case to achieve that objective”.
“To ensure its sustainability, the building must have a commercially viable purpose capable of covering ongoing maintenance and future development costs. To this end, it is vitally important we have a feasibility study to secure funding for larger capital works for the project. We look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders in the new year to advance the regeneration of the former Courthouse, Gaol and buildings”.
“Finally, we wish to express our sincere thanks to Roscommon County Council, the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, elected representatives and the dedicated volunteers whose efforts have helped secure this funding allocation” concluded Ciaran..
Over €1m was awarded to various projects in the county on Monday under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
