Aldi lodge first party appeal against a number of planning conditions

Planning and Development Consultants on behalf of Aldi Stores (Ireland) Ltd, have lodged a first party appeal to An Coimisiun Pleanala against conditions only attached to Roscommon County Council’s notification of a decision to grant permission for demolition of derelict structures and the repair and refurbishment of the terrace to provide 5 residential dwellings, construction of a discount store (to include off licence use) and all site development works at the former Candon’s site and lands to the rear at Patrick Street, Boyle.

The consultants say “While our client is please to receive a notification of a decision to grant permission, there are a number of matters contained within the conditions as currently presented which our client is seeking to amend/omit for clarification purposes and to ensure that the scheme will be viable and constructible, given the particular site characteristics, which the design team and applicant has worked hard with RCC to try and deliver a sustainable retail development on this infill site in Boyle, in tandem with the adjoining residential units which provides significant conservation gain”.

The first party appeal on behalf of Aldi was lodged on February 18th 2026.

Previously, a third party appeal was lodged against the development by Brian O’Sullivan, Kilgolan Upper, Ballyboy, Kilcormac, Co. Offaly.

An Comisiun Pleanala has advised that the case will be decided by June 22nd.
