Two Powerful New Displays to open at King House

The Connaught Rangers Association warmly invites you to the official launch of two remarkable new displays at King House on Saturday,  June 27th 2026 at 2pm.

This is more than just a museum opening – it’s a homecoming. These exhibitions are part of the Association’s ongoing commitment to creating a living, breathing, learning space for visitors and a welcoming haven for the wider Connaught Rangers community. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a descendant, or simply curious, come and see for yourself: the memory of the Regiment is very much alive.

The James Daly & Connaught Rangers Mutiny Exhibition – A story that crossed continents

Thanks to a truly international collaboration with the Dagshai Jail Museum in India, we have recreated James Daly’s prison cell – a powerful, moving centrepiece. A short audio-visual narration brings the mutiny and its sacrifice vividly to life. You won’t just read about history; you’ll feel it.

The Peninsular War Display – Where the Rangers earned their legend

Travel back to the early 1800s, when the Connaught Rangers carved out a fearsome reputation with savage bayonet charges and raw courage. After the Battle of Talavera in 1809, the Duke of Wellington himself praised them, saying they were “as steady under fire as on parade.”
Forged by fierce Irish spirit, unbreakable discipline, and heavy losses, the Rangers’ legacy endured long after the war ended. This exhibition brings those gritty battlefields and brave hearts back into view.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Michael Heavey and Heavey Technology for their unwavering support. We also extend our deepest appreciation to Mr. Aaron McDonnell and Mrs. Dawn Bates – without you, none of this would be possible.

To coincide with the launch, a talk will be given by Dr. Jyoti Atwal, Associated Professor of Nehru University, New Delhi on theme of India and the Connaught Rangers. The Connaught Rangers Association have kindly extended an invitation to descendants of the mutineers to attend and many have indicated their willingness to join us on the day.

Everyone is welcome to this free event.
