CONNACHT SHIELD – Well done to our Connacht Shield team, captained by Keith Dowling who pulled off a fantastic victory against the nationally renowned Co Sligo Golf Club (Rosses Point).
Their course is often described as one of the top 10 courses in the county and is such a challenge that they have a steady stream of American golfers booking months in advance to play it every Summer. The club itself has over 10 times our membership. However, none of this seemed to matter a jot to the 2 pairings from Boyle who went down and beat 2 pairings from Rosses Point on their own course. Well done to the combinations of Lee McKillen and Niall O’Donohoe and that of team Captain Keith Dowling and Mark Whelan who were the 2 teams who won away from home. The Rosses Point teams won a match in Boyle but Vincent Egan and Pat Brogan halved their match. The overall fixture finished 2.5 to Boyle vs 1.5 to Rosses Point. Good luck to our lads in the next round.
SIXES – Boyle hosted our round of the children’s Sixes competition last week and it was a huge success. Boyle tied for top score with Tubbercurry with Tubbercurry claiming the league points for 1st place on countback. Thanks to all who helped out, especially Bernie Kemple and Paddy McLoughlin who stepped in to help with card marking at short notice.
Our next fixture is on August 10th in Carrick On Shannon Golf Club.
MENS CAPTAINS PRIZE – The most important date of the annual golfing calendar for the men of the club is the Men’s Captains Prize, which takes place next Sunday the 9th of August. This years Captain is Paddy McLoughlin. The competition will be played in its usual format of an 18 Hole Strokeplay with the top 15 competing in a 9 hole playoff that evening and the presentation of prizes taking place after the conclusion of the play off.
There will also be a Captains Scramble on the preceding Friday evening, all members make and female welcome to play.
