Boyle Golf News 5/5/14

 Results for last weekend’s fundraiser to follow next week. Thursday night’s Mens competition was won by Michael Gilmartin 30pts, 2nd Gerry Carty 27pts, 3rd Pat Conroy 27pts.

 Competitions for this week are the weekly nine hole which can be played Monday to Wednesday plus Saturday, the Mens Competition is on Thursday and Friday is a nine hole Scramble. Next Sunday is the PGA Tankard. Format will be an 18 Hole Stroke. The second round of the foursomes is to be played by May 18th. The Horse & Summer Show are holding a classic on this coming Saturday May 10th. Team of four €25 per person including hot meal. Format will be a Rumble. All support appreciated. Junior Lessons take place on Saturday from 11.00/1.00. Beginners lessons for Ladies take place on Tuesday May 6th and Tuesday May 13th. Thanks to all those who are helping out and welcome to all the new beginners.

Thanks to all who supported the “Quiz & Curry Nite” it was a great success. Club Captain Padraig O’Connell thanked everyone for attending with special thanks to Susan & Brendan for both organising the night and sponsoring the prizes. Thanks also to Jonathan for correcting, to Gary for looking after the bar and to Mary, as always, for the lovely food. Padraig specially welcomed Jimmy & Pauline Doyle to the event. The winning team was Tish Perry, Geraldine McDermottroe, Bernie Lyons and Eamon Perry, runners up were Martina Keville, Tony Scanlon, Pacelli McDermott & Maurice Mullen. Eamon Perry thanked Susan & Brendan, and all who helped out, for a great night. The raffle was won by Jimmy & Pauline Doyle, Mary Keenan, Kathleen Candon & Aileen Madden.

The Scramble was won by Jonathan Egan, Teresa Ward & Michael Simon, 2nd Terry Canning, Lizzie O’Sullivan & Michael Gilmartin, 3rd Brendan Gaffney, Sorcha Feore & Vincent Egan.

Special thanks to Lizzie from Athlone and Sorcha from Lahinch who spent the weekend in Boyle, taking part in the Quiz, the Scramble the Shambles and even found time for Zipit. We appreciate their support.

Members are reminded that 2014 membership is due, thanks to all have paid to date.

The club monthly meetings take place this Wednesday evening at 8.30

Commisserations to the Roscommon under 21 team who lost out to Dublin in the All Ireland Final last weekend.

The Club extend sympathy to the family of Margaret O’Sullivan who passed away last week. Margaret was a past member of the club, winning both the lady captain’s prize and the Lynch Cup. We also extend sympathy to Mary Regan and family on the passing of Christy Regan last weekend. Members will remember Christy taking photographs at various club events including dinner dances and presentations. May they rest in Peace.
