Chris O’Dowd tweets support for Boyle

This Sunday Boyle GAA club senior team take part in one of their biggest games to date when they meet former All Ireland champions St Brigid’s in the Roscommon SFC semi final.

Boyle are playing some great football at present and have a strong panel of players to choose from.

Donie Smith is back in the fold as is Aaron Sharkey. Up front the Smith brothers and county minor star Cian Mc Keon will be a force to be reckoned with by any team.

Boyle have won their last three outings with victories against Roscommon Gaels, Clann na nGael and St. Faithleach’s.

With these victories under their belt, the Boyle lads will not fear what is a strong St. Brigid’s team under the management of former Roscommon star Frankie Dolan.

In the pre match build up, ex Boyle and Roscommon Minor player and Hollywood actor Chris O’Dowd is backing the Boyle team, tweeting to his 689,867 followers on Thursday  “Huge love & luck to @BoyleGAA this weekend. Big Game. Massive men. No problem”.

With Chris and all of Boyle behind the team, there is muted excitement locally that we could see our local GAA team in their first senior county final since 1927.

* Throw in at Strokestown is at 4.30pm (Admission €10)

( The other semi final between Padraig Pearses and Western Gaels is in Elphin on Sunday at 2pm)
