Train users on the Sligo Dublin line that services Boyle were subject to delays earlier this morning following an incident on the rail line.
Shortly after 5am a train struck a flock of sheep between Enfield and Kilcock.
The train was damaged in the collision.
According to a spokesperson for Irish Rail, the driver was able to operate the train at a reduced speed until it reached Maynooth station.
Early morning services were affected as a result.
