Hairspray rehearsals this evening

Like it or not, the evenings are drawing in around us, meaning it’s time to think about what to do for the autumn….. You could, of course, take up evening classes on a foreign language, the theory and history of video games, or badminton racket maintenance. Or you could stay at home and rearrange your tea-towel drawer! However, the best fun to be had this autumn will be taking part in Boyle Musical Society’s forthcoming production of Hairspray, which will be staged from November 16th to 20th.

Rehearsals will begin tonight Monday, September 5th in St. Joseph’s Hall, Boyle at 8pm and a warm welcome is extended to all new, former and existing members to join up for twelve unforgettable weeks of music, singing, drama, dancing, comedy and lots more….
Our Musical Director Anne and Director/Choreographer, Vivienne will be on hand to outline the show to everybody, so come along and join the fun. It is hoped to have the principal parts in the show cast by late September, so we are really expecting a big turnout on the first night. Rehearsals will continue in the Hall at 8pm on Thursday 8th Sept. and thereafter on every Monday and Thursday night.

Hairspray is an American musical based on the 1988 John Waters film, with music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan. The songs include 1960s-style dance music and downtown Rhythm & Blues. Set in 1962, the story concerns plump teenager Tracy Turnblad’s dream to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight, and meets a colorful array of characters. She then launches a campaign to integrate the show. Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s. The show features well knows songs such as ‘Good Morning Baltimore’, ’Mama, I’m A Big Girl Now’ and ‘You Can’t Stop The Beat’.

Boyle Musical Society will stage Hairspray from Wednesday November 16th until Sunday November 20th in St. Joseph’s Hall, Boyle and plans are already underway to ensure that this will be Boyle Musical Society’s most spectacular and memorable show ever! So come along and join the fun on Monday September 5th.
