Landscaping work to commence at 2nd Gate Lodge

Work is scheduled to commence this week on a landscaping upgrade of the perimeter grounds around the Second Gate Lodge in Lough Key Forest Park.

Boyle Town Team in conjunction with Roscommon County Council applied for funding under the Outdoor Recreation scheme for the project and were successful in their application.

Following a tender process, the contract was awarded to Crummy Landscaping, Cloonloo, Boyle.

The project will involved clearing left and right of the Gate Lodge, both on east and west side, filling the area with top soil and seeding into lawn, installation of timber edging and gravel divide between Lodge and new lawn area and the installation of picnic benches and bike rack on the cycle path adjacent to the Lodge and general tidy up of the area.

It is hoped to add shrub beds at a later stage.

Commenting on the project, Town Team Chairman Ciaran Sheerin said: “We are delighted to see this project commence with a quick turnaround time of 5 weeks. It will hopefully make this area adjacent to the cycle path more appealing and will highlight the beauty of this historic building. I would like to thank my colleagues in the Town Team for all their efforts in putting forward an application for this project and also members of Boyle Tidy Towns. Boyle Town Team is also in discussion with Boyle Chamber of Commerce to seek funding to commence restoration of the Second Gate Lodge which urgently needs remedial work” concluded Ciaran.
