Local lady travels to Uganda on community project

Local fitness coach Mairéad Cogan (Supple) is set to take part in a remarkable journey to Uganda this November, in a mission to plant one million trees and support sustainable community projects.
Mairéad, who runs SuppleFitness, will travel alongside a group of GAA stars, musicians and volunteers as part of the Plant the Planet Games, organised by Warriors for Humanity and Self Help Africa.
This will be her second time taking part in the initiative, having previously travelled to Kenya in 2022, an experience she describes as life changing.
“That trip opened my eyes to just how much impact small efforts from us here can have on communities over there,” Mairéad explained. “Planting trees might seem simple, but it creates shade, food, income and hope for generations. It’s powerful to see.”
Mairéad has committed to raising €5,000 to fund the tree planting and local development projects. With just a few weeks to go before departure, Mairéad is reaching out to the community for support.
“Every euro raised goes directly to these community projects,” she explains. “It’s not just about planting trees, it’s about helping families build a sustainable future.”
Mairéad, who runs SuppleFitness, is well known locally for her passion for health, wellbeing and helping others achieve balance in their lives…values that align perfectly with the mission of this project.
She adds: “I’m incredibly proud to represent our local community in something that has such a lasting, positive impact, both for the planet and for people.”
