Man to appear in court following Boyle incident

A man will appear before a special sitting of Carrick on Shannon court later this evening in relation to an incident in Boyle on Thursday morning.

Gardai from Boyle were operating a Covid-19 checkpoint in the Mockmoyne area on the R294 when they stopped a vehicle.

Gardai ascertained that the occupants were exceeding the 2km rule and they were asked to turn around and return to where they came from.

One occupant of the vehicle allegedly became confrontational and aggressive and refused to comply with the request of the Gardai.

He was arrested under the public order act and taken to Castlerea Garda Station.

It is understood that when he was being arrested he allegedly threatened to assault the Gardai and allegedly spat in the patrol car following his arrest.

Boyle Gardai remind the public that it is not permissible to travel outside 2km of their home except in certain circumstances and thank all those who are complying  with this public health measure.
