Minister of State with responsibility for Office of Public Works Patrick O’Donovan will visit Cootehall on Wednesday during his tour of the constituency.
He is due in the village at 12.30pm and will visit the local museum and Mc Gahern Centre.
The building is now owned by the community following the successful handover by the OPW in 2013. The Barracks in Cootehall featured in Mc Gahern’s novel, ‘The Barracks’ . Inside many of the old artefacts from a typical Garda Station in the 1940’s 1950’s are depicted with photographs and other material of interest to followers of the award winning author. McGahern’s father, a Garda Sergeant, lived in the Garda barracks in Cootehall.
Minister O’Donovan will be accompanied by Minister Frank Feighan on his tour and will also visit Tubbercurry, Strandhill, Rosses Point and Dromahair before arriving in Cootehall.
