The much talked about and controversial N61 realignment between Boyle and Roscommon will go ahead in the next number of weeks.
The news follows the formal signing recently of the contract with Clare Civil Engineering Ltd., the successful tenderer.
Two sections of the road are due for upgrade – 1.2km at Rathallen and 1.5k at Treanagry with road closures as planned due to come into effect.
Work will commence on the project in the March and it is anticipated that it will be completed by the end of 2016.
There was controversy in October 2015 when details were published of a year long closure of the N61 to facilitate the works.
