A number of items are due to be discussed at this afternoon’s meeting of Roscommon County Council, including the N61 road and Castlerea Fire Station.
A motion calling on the Council to reclassify the N61 road from Boyle to Athlone as a National Primary Route will be discussed.
As a National Primary Route, it is understood, the road would be open to greater funding for further upgrade work.
Also today, Councillors from the Castlerea area will discuss the current closure of the town’s Fire Station.
The station has been closed for a number of weeks now due to members of staff being absent on sick leave.
A public meeting was held recently on the issue where local people said lives are being put at risk as a result of the closure.
