Social Inclusion Week in Boyle

Roscommon County Council’s Social Inclusion Unit is running Social Inclusion Awareness Week this year from Monday 15th October to Sunday 21st October and they would like to hear from groups or organisations in Boyle interested in hosting an event.

The purpose of the week is to increase awareness and understanding of inclusion and diversity within the County.

The theme for this year’s event is “Healthy Roscommon” and they are particularly interested in healthy initiatives which aim to combat social isolation and promote positive mental health.

Groups and organisations in Boyle and other towns who are involved in social inclusion are invited to host an event during the week. All events will be included in a brochure which will be used to promote and highlight the week.

Some suggestions/ideas for events

Some examples are:

  • Host an event to promote positive mental health amongst socially excluded groups
  • Have an open day so that others can learn more about your group or service
  • Hold an exhibition open to the public
  • Have a movie night or put on a play
  • Hold an intercultural event
  • Hold a workshop or coffee morning to discuss a particular theme or issue
  • Arrange a sporting event focusing on inclusion
  • Host a storytelling event in the local library
  • Initiatives to improve accessibility (Event’s should be accessible to all)

Or if you are planning a launch, open day, or specific event with a social inclusion focus you could consider holding it during Social Inclusion Awareness Week 2018.

The deadline for submitting events and activities is Friday 14th September 2018.
