Boyle Library service look forward to welcoming you back to the Library and thank you for your patience and understanding during the period of closure.
(Technical difficulties are being experienced with printing service at present in the Library).
Viewers will recall an “oil spill” last November resulted in the closure of the Library on King House Lane and for a period of time – King House itself.
In March, Roscommon Co Co issued a statement saying: A specialist remediation contractor continues to progress the phased programme of investigative and remediation works, undertaken in full accordance with environmental, archaeological, and heritage requirements. This work remains ongoing and is advancing
as scheduled. To ensure continuity of library services for the Boyle community while remediation works
continue, Roscommon County Council has identified a suitable temporary premises at Boyle Courthouse.
Meanwhile, work continues on the new state of the art Library building at the rear of An Rioga facing onto the Boyle River.
Once completed the new Library will be fully accessible and adaptable and will feature innovative services, including ‘My Open Library’ technology, with flexible spaces for events and workshops. It will create a go-to “third space” within the community that is adaptive and responsive to the community needs and fosters a culture of connection, cooperation and community wellbeing.
The ground floor will offer an open-plan layout with floor-to-ceiling glazing, creating a strong visual connection to the immediate surroundings. The first floor, clad in timber, will include framed windows overlooking the river, enhancing the building’s integration with its environment. The new building will be bordered to the west by the An Ríoga plaza and to the east by a new inclusive public realm space with electric vehicle charging facilities.
