Two local fundraising appeals need your help

Two fundraising appeals that need your support are currently open in Boyle. With only 10 weeks from today until Christmas Day, the Boyle Christmas Lights GoFundMe page is now open. Over the past few years there was always a concern that we may not have Christmas Lights but a hard working committee have ensured there will be lights this Christmas and even better that before, but to do this, the funds have to be in place. All donations will be greatly received to help light up Boyle again this Christmas. Please donate here.
After the excitement of the fundraising launch for €150,000 for the redevelopment of Boyle Family Resource Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre has died down, the work continues behind the scenes to reach this target. If you are a business, an individual or family interested in donating to the fund or providing sponsorship, please contact the Centre’s manager Monica Gaffney on 086 8305587 or email: [email protected]. The Centre is encouraging people to donate whatever they can, with every contribution valued. All donors will have the opportunity to have their name included in a permanent Book of Supporters, recognising everyone who helped make the redevelopment possible. Those donating €1,000 or more will also receive permanent recognition on the Centre’s Donor Wall. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses wishing to support the redevelopment. More information and to donate, please click here.

Rehearsals begin for Boyle Christmas Concert

A little over two weeks since the controversy arose in relation to the cancelling of the Nathan Carter Concert in St. Joseph’s Church in Boyle and the story is still getting national prominence. It has featured on all the national radio stations and media outlets with countless interviews and discussions taking place in relation to the cancellation and the ramifications of that decision. To date, Boyletoday.com has not received any response to requests for a statement from the Diocese of Elphin on the matter.
It also emerged during the week that Boyle will have a Christmas Concert this year, in the Church of Ireland. The local Musical Society is planning an evening of Christmas music, classic carols, seasonal songs and midwinter melodies in a concert which will take place in “the atmospheric surroundings” of the Church of Ireland on Saturday, December 5th. They are inviting all past, present and future members to take part in what promises to be “an enchanting evening of warm Christmas nostalgia, designed to bring a radiant glow to the enduring winter chill”. First rehearsals for the event took place yesterday evening in Abbey College.

And finally……..!

A farmer had five female pigs. Times were tough, so he decided to take them to the fair and sell them.
At the fair, he met another farmer who owned five male pigs. After talking for a while, they decided to mate the pigs and split the proceeds 50/50.
The farmers lived 60 kilometers apart, so they agreed to drive 30 kilometers each and meet in a field where the pigs could mate.
The next morning, the farmer with the female pigs got up at 5am, loaded them into the back of the van, the only vehicle he owned, and drove the 30 kilometers.
While the pigs were mating, he asked the other farmer, “How will I know if they’re pregnant?”
The other farmer replied, “If they’re lying in the grass tomorrow morning, they’re pregnant. If they’re in the mud, they’re not.”
The next morning, the pigs were rolling in the mud. So he hosed them off, loaded them into van, and drove back to try again.
This continued every morning for more than a week and both farmers were exhausted.
Finally, one morning, he was too tired to get out of bed.
He called to his wife, “Honey, please look outside and tell me whether the pigs are in the mud or the grass.”
“Neither!” his wife yelled. “They’re in van, and one of them is blowing the horn!”
