Time to ‘Be Part of Our Next Chapter’
There was a great buzz on Military Road last Monday as Boyle Family Resource Centre launched their fundraising “Be Part of Our Next Chapter” campaign and also held a “Spin Challenge” with various people cycling to reach 150k on spin bikes, matching the amount that is required to complete the project. The Centre need to raise an additional €150,000 to complete work on their Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre, formerly known as “The Rectory” and that is where they need your help. At the launch, Centre Manger Monica Gaffney outlined the various ways individuals, families, community groups and businesses can help: “The Centre is encouraging people to donate whatever they can, with every contribution valued. All donors will have the opportunity to have their name included in a permanent Book of Supporters, recognising everyone who helped make the redevelopment possible. Those donating €1,000 or more will also receive permanent recognition on the Centre’s Donor Wall. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses wishing to support the redevelopment”.
There are many people in our community who can testify to the great work that the Family Resource and Counselling Center provides. With a dedicated staff ably led by energetic manager Monica, the FRC is going from strength to strength but it needs your financial help to get the Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre completed. If you would like to donate or provide sponsorship, please click here or contact [email protected] where Monica will go through the various sponsorship options available.
Statement still awaited on alleged cancellation of concert
A big discussion item around Boyle at present relates to the alleged cancelling of a concert scheduled for St. Joseph’s Church. There is a lot of discussion on going at present in relation to the subject – some no doubt correct and more without foundation with a lot of unhelpful and derogatory comments going unmoderated on local social media pages.
Boyletoday.com contacted the office of the Elphin Diocese on Monday last for a statement for publication in relation to the matter so we could have all the facts correct before we wrote a piece on the saga, but to date we have not received a reply.
During the week, local music venue The Saddlers Inn “made and offer” as they put it: “We know many people in Boyle and the surrounding areas were looking forward to welcoming Nathan back for what would have been a very special night. So, from The Saddlers Inn, Kingsland, Boyle we would like to make an offer. The Saddlers Inn has the 13th of December available, and we would be delighted to offer our venue as an alternative for the night.
We can’t offer a solution to the situation surrounding concerts in the Church going forward, but we can offer a venue in the Boyle area for December 13th — and hopefully give the many fans who were looking forward to seeing Nathan the opportunity to still enjoy a Christmas night of music. The Saddlers has always been about live music, dancing and bringing people together, and we would love nothing more than to see Nathan back in Boyle”.
Danger to motorists during Deer Rutting season
Motorists around the general Lough Key area and along sections of the N4 have been advised to drive with caution as the deer ‘Rutting’ season takes place. The Rutting Season occurs between October and December when male deer compete against each other to gain a female’s attention. At this time of year, deer collisions peak as many of the animals cross roads seeking new territories. The highest risk of collisions is between sunset and midnight and the hours shortly before and after sunrise. Deer signs are in place at locations along the N4 and side roads where the animals are known to be active and are likely to cross. There are large concentrations of deer on the Curlieu Mountain, The Plains and in the Corrigeenroe and Knockvicar areas where motorists are advised to drive with caution.
Halloween Costume Swap in Boyle
Another great idea from Boyle Family Reource Centre – the Halloween Costume Swap. According to the folks at the Centre: “Here at Boyle Family Resource Centre, we know how much kids love dressing up for Halloween — and how quickly they can outgrow their costumes. That’s why we’re thrilled to bring back our Halloween Costume Swap. How It Works: Drop Off: From Monday 12th – Friday 17th October, pop in and donate any gently used costumes your little ones longer need. Pick Up: Then come back on Wednesday 21st or Thursday 22nd October between 2:00pm – 4:30pm to pick out some new costumes for this year’s spooky celebrations! It’s a fun, eco-friendly way to share the Halloween spirit — and make sure every child can enjoy the magic of dressing up. Bring your old costumes, swap for something new and let’s make this Halloween spooktacular for everyone”.

And finally….!
A young woman was preparing for her wedding.
She asked her mother to go out and buy a nice long black negligee and carefully place it in her suitcase so it would not wrinkle.
Well, Mom forgot until the last minute, so she dashed out and could only find a short pink nightie.
She bought it and threw it into the suitcase.
After the wedding the bride and groom enter their hotel room.
The groom was a little self-conscious so he asked his new bride to change in the bathroom and promise not to peek while he got ready for bed.
While she was in the bathroom, the bride opened her suitcase and saw the negligee her mother had thrown in there.
She exclaimed, “Oh no! It’s short, pink, and wrinkled!”
Then her groom cried out, “Ah for God sake – didn’t I tell you not to peek!”
