Roscommon Races this evening
Day one of the first two-day of the meeting of the year at Roscommon racecourse takes place this evening Monday June 12th.
Racing continues tomorrow Tuesday 13th.
The first race on Monday is 5.50pm and on Tuesday, racing gets underway at 5.40pm.
The season got off to a flyer four weeks ago. The glorious conditions contributed to a great evening of racing that saw a very large attendance. Punters enjoyed a productive evening, with the well-support Tilly’s Chilli at 3/1 getting things rolling. Act of Valour was well backed too, as was the third winner, Zamira at 11/4. And the good times continued in the fourth race, with Bottleofsmoke backed from 5/1 to 5/2. Noel Meade’s Mr Showtime took the bumper, a 2/1 favourite.
“There’s always plenty of cheers as the horses go past the winning post, but you could sense here a few weeks ago that there was quite a few people on the course on a winning streak. It certainly added to the atmosphere. It was so uplifting to see the first meeting of the year being such a fruitful one,” said Roscommon Racecourse Manager, Michael Finneran.
The feature race on Monday is thetote.com Connacht National with €30,000 in prize money. Last year’s line-up featured a strong field and the race was won by Aranhill Chief for the second year running.
Other sponsors on the day are EBF and Foran Equine. The best turned out prize in each race is sponsored by Gately Stone.
On Tuesday, the feature race is the Dermot Hughes Car Sales Handicap Hurdle with €20,000 in prize money. Other sponsors this day are OCR Waste Management and Connaughton Auctioneers. The best turned out prize in each race is sponsored by YK Signs, Athleague.
“With good prize-money feature races on both days, there will be certainly be a number of classy performers taking part. We hope once again that the weather will be as beautiful as it was for the first meeting,” said Mr. Finneran.
As always there will be music in the main bar after the second last race. On Monday it will be provided by Billy Garvin while Tuesday will see the first appearance of Michael Regan.
