Silver for Boyle swimmer in Athlone

At the Connaught Senior Schools Swimming Championships in Athlone last weekend, Boyle swimmer Diarmuid Sutton, a third year student at Abbey Community College, took silver medal in the U16 category of the 100m Breaststroke final in a time of 1.15.74.

The Championships were attended by schools from all over the province, and ACC was represented by Diarmuid and Finn Doherty, a first year student. Finn competed for the first time in the 100m and 400m Freestyle races and the 100m Breaststroke.

The top two athletes in each event qualify for the Senior Schools Interprovincial Finals at the NAC in April and so Diarmuid will go on to represent his school as part of the Connacht Schools Squad.

Diarmuid also achieved his fifth qualifying time of the season for the Irish Age Group Division 1 Championships by breaking the 1 minute barrier in the 100m Freestyle event achieving a time of 59.71 seconds.
