It is understood up to 37 jobs could be lost at the AvantCard facility in Carrick on Shannon.
In a statement the company said: “Like many other employers, we regularly review our business to ensure that it is right for our customers, reflecting any changes in customer behaviour and the competitive marketplace.
“Following a detailed review, it is with regret that we confirm that we are planning to reduce our workforce across our business areas,”
The job losses are as a result of “new technologies” and “changing trends”.
The company has entered into a consultation process with staff and they hope that the redundancies can be achieved on a voluntary basis.
The news comes following 160 job losses at the MBNA facility in the town around this time last year.
A number of people from Boyle work in Avant Card which employs approximately 160.
