Fundraising bake sale on Saturday

A fundraising Bake Sale will be held in Lough Key Forest Park on Saturday morning July 27th following parkrun.

All the money raised will go towards fundraising for women’s aid.

The event is organised by local woman Lucy Brennan who has taken on the challenge to walk 250km in the month of July to raise awareness and funds for Women’s Aid.

According to Lucy: “My reasons for taking on this challenge are firstly, I was in two very abusive relationships myself, many years ago. I fled for my life with my two girls. I never knew there was help out there. I didn’t know women’s aid existed. I was lucky, though as I had my parents to come home to. Not everyone has and this can be a huge part of why some women feel trapped. I feel it’s very important to let others know that this service exists.

Secondly, in July three years ago, I could not walk. I lost the power in my legs and had to learn to walk again. I progressed over time until eventually I could walk unaided. It took me the last three years to get back to full health so I’m delighted to be able to do this now.

Lucy’s son Fiachra is also undertaking the challenge with Lucy and is raising his own sponsorship.

If you can not attend the Bake Sale you can donate on Lucy Brennan’s Facebook page and there are also sponsorship cards available.
